Ballogie Estate
"Scotch beef from the fields outside your window. Fly fishing clinics on the Dee with Scotland's top coaches."
Ballogie sits on the south bank of the Dee in Royal Deeside โ a working estate producing Scotch beef and Scotch lamb. The Nicol family have run it for generations, and the land is still farmed seriously: cattle in the fields, the river running through, and lambing in the spring.
Accommodation ranges from Ballogie House (14 guests, seven en-suite bedrooms, hot tub, orangery dining room) to Potarch Lodge (VisitScotland 5-star, also 14 guests, open-plan kitchen with range cooker, on the banks of the Dee) through to smaller riverside cottages and the 1860s stone Auchnafoy farmhouse.
Fly fishing clinics are run on the Dee with the Scottish Fly Fishing Company in May and October. The cattle you can see from the window are the beef on the plate. This is the kind of place where provenance is not a marketing word.
