The Howie family have been at Cairnton for over 30 years. Ken farms Aberdeen Angus cattle and grows barley. Three beautifully restored Victorian farm buildings — The Bothy, The Byre, and The Stables — overlook the Dee Valley. All three have hot tubs, log burners, underfloor heating.
The cottages are powered by an on-farm wind turbine. Heat from a biomass boiler. Beef from the herd you can see from the window.
Ken set up the Deeside Activity Park next door — clay pigeon shooting, archery, axe throwing, quad biking, off-road driving, and a farm shop with Cairnton Aberdeen Angus beef. You can watch a herd of black cattle at breakfast and shoot clay pigeons after lunch.
