Boutique Farm Bothies
"Barley for Glenlivet. Sheep in the field. Stars overhead."
Jane and James Foad farm barley โ the same barley that ends up malted into Glenlivet whisky. They run a breeding flock of sheep and grow strawberries in polytunnels. They also built three bothies and a farmhouse from recycled and reclaimed materials.
The Barley Bothy is a tin cabin with views over the whisky fields. The Sheep Shed watches over the flock from a wood-fired hot tub. The Dairy at Denend sits on the edge of the Cairngorms. The farmhouse sleeps eight with a wood-fired pizza oven in the grounds.
Jane designed every interior โ vintage treasures, salvaged pieces, nothing matching. In summer you can pick strawberries from the polytunnel. In autumn the barley harvest fills the air with the smell that, if you know Scotch whisky, is deeply familiar.

โA proper hands-on farm day
We came to Boutique Farm Bothies not quite knowing what to expect, and left already planning to come back. The kids were hands-on from the first morning, the hosts couldnโt have been more welcoming, and waking up to that Formartine & Buchan air was something else. Genuinely one of our best family trips in Scotland.
